For me, I'd lose the chrome bezel, and make the back an all-in-one piece, like how it is on the iPod touch 2G, but I'd still keep the plastic.

You mean make it look more like the HTC Touch HD?

add an LED under the home button or around the earpiece for notifications

Make the screen fill the entire front face (so that the screen can become 16:9). To do this you would have put the home button on the right hand side (IMO that would be better because you could press it with your "holding" hand) and set the ear speaker just under the bezel.

Except not everyone is right handed...

Personally I would make the plastic back come in more colors.

put some form of flash were the apple logo is, makes it less likely to scratch if the right material is used and can be usefull when taken photos or at night to use as a flashlight instead of the crappy flashlight apps you can get through the appstore

Good call.

Like the Idea of Glowing Home Button, And Apple Logo As Flash would be awesome.

More Colour Options would be my biggest choice.

Doesn't matter though. If the button was on the right hand side, you would press it with your index finger if you were holding with your left, or your thumb if you were holding with your right. :D

can you say ugliest design ever created?

I would accept that from a crappy Palm-like company, but not Apple in a million years.

I would never buy an Apple product again if they sold that.

That's obviously just a quick photoshop job to show how it could look. A 16:9 screen would be much better than the current one, and I'm sure that Apple could add one to a future iPhone without ruining the look.

However I'm not sure about the home button being on the side.

Anyway, personally I would prefer it if the headphone jack was on the bottom. It just makes more sense than putting it on the top.

Totally agree. Every time I take my phone out of my pocket when the headphones are plugged in I have to flip it around. They figured this out with the iPods, now do it for the iPhone.

i'd get rid of the easily scratched and cracked plastic back. reception on my 1st gen, aluminum-backed iPhone was just fine.

i definitely dig the way my white iPhone looks too, but i'd take the durability of the 1st gen's aluminum in a second if i had the choice. even if it did have worse reception, which in my case it didn't.

I would make it look like this.........

:D Haha, sorry but I'm loving my new iPhones. :D

:D You're just saying that because it looks different to what you're used to! If Apple had come out with that layout in the first place, I still think people would be swooning over it.

As has already been said, it was just a quick Photoshop job to illustrate roughly what I was talking about. I wasn't expecting to win any awards. But thanks for the "ugliest design ever created" award. :p

P.S. On the subject of the "notifications LED" I think it would look good if it was one of those tiny, almost hidden, LEDs like they have on their wireless keyboards. They are so neat, those LEDs, it's like they are actually shining through the metal.

I really wish that the chrome bezel was wider, as it was on the original iPhone. For me, this is what really gave the iPhone a special look and helped change the appearance a little bit from any angle that you saw it from. Oh, and I hate the easy marring of the 3G's plastic.
