I have a Mb pro 17" mid 2010 A1297 with the 2.53 in it 4gigs and 500gb

Long story short, it had a glass of water spilled next to it, splashed into the usb ports and got the logic board wet. Screen powers on but only has about 1% visibility... requires flash light through the apple logo on the top shell to see the screen.

I have found repair kits roughly $200.00+-

Should I sell it as parts only (whats a rough idea on what its worth?)

Should I just attempt to fix the logic board and trade it in through amazon for $500.00 (technically would get about $300 because of LB purchase)

Should I just keep it because they dont make them anymore?

I am currently using an i7 15" and have 16gigs of ram and on order is a 500gig ssd (I do a lot of photography and video) So I dont think I really need it as a spare i dont think.

Oh and as for condition, the aluminum body has never been dropped, but has scratches on it. keys look a worn as well.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Don't waste your time fixing it. IMO there is a pretty limited market for them now and its not worth the effort. I'd try to just sell it as is especially since you have a working laptop besides the 17" one.

My only issue is amazon wont accept water or fire damage it says for trade in. Best buy doesnt want it either. So I either invest the 200 to make 300 or sell it as is.... but in reality whats this paper wight worth as parts to someone? 200-400?

Bahaha yeah that was kinda the objective. Turn my 15" in to a speed machine and just part ways with the big one..

That ebay system was a 2.66 Core i7. You have a 2.53 Core i5. Sorry, your system is not worth as much as that one.

Got $320 for trade in via amazon. Had another trade as well. Bought xbox one instead of the 500gig SSD lol...

Really, what could you do with a computer with a broken motherboard with no real market value?

I would have repaired it. If you look at the refurbished 17" MBP's on Apples site there gone with in minutes to an hour of listing.

If it's with in Apples 5 year repair time frame I'd definitely repair it. IF not then I'd shop around.
