Hey guys. Newbie here. Haha. I have a small dilemma here. So here's the story.
I'm a college student from California, but I am studying in Europe for 2 and a half more months ('til late December). On the way back from my weekend trip to Paris (freakin' awesome city!), my (one year old) 5g 60 gig iPod was very low on battery, so I decided to use one of my external battery packs that I bought from CompUsa. When I put it in, the iPod (while off) flashed really quickly and then the area where the dock connector started to smoke. So I took it out right away. I freaked out! After that, I checked to see if all was OK and at the time, it seemed alright. However, 2 days later after the incident, I noticed that my battery would not hold a charge for very long - one to two hours at best. So i figured the stupid external batteries were a bad choice and really effed up my iPod. With this said, what do you suggest I do?
1) Should I try to replace JUST the battery? I have an InvisibleShield on as well, if that makes any difference. And know that I have NO TOOLS available (unless I buy some, which I wouldn't) here in Europe. What site would you recommend I get the battery from?
OR
2) Should I just buy a new iPod? If this is the option I choose, I have no idea what I want because I want different ones for different reasons [1g Shuffle because of superior sound quality and USB stick functionality, but I hear has crappy battery life as time goes on and I don't know how I feel about not being able to CHOOSE my song; 2g Shuffle because its nice and portable, but does not have USB stick functionality and again not being able to choose a song; 2g Nano in either 4 gig (silver) or 8 gig (black), but I suspect the sound quality isnt as good as the Shuffles or 5g/5.5g iPod and I saw many pics that the black attracts too many fingerprints; 5.5g 30 gig iPod is a better value than 8 gig Nano, but since I had the InvisibleShield on my current 5g ipod, I feel like I can't go back to a bare ipod, and everyone knows that the application of the IS is a biatch.]
Know: I am an American student, here in Europe, where the dollar is inferior to the Euro, and on a limited income. But, I can always buy my iPod from the US online store, and have my brother send it out to me, so that might not be a problem. I'm looking for an "intermediate" replacement - I'm holding out for the rumored widescreen iPod. I listen to music a lot, use the video function a lot, and play games occasionally, but i might not care about the video/video game function for the remaining two and half more months. I have about 45 gigs of music, movies, and tv shows, but am willing to just select what I put in, as opposed to just loading everything on. A functioning iPod would help me so much because travelling without it would be dreadful. Sorry for this rant, but I'm going crazy without an iPod. Haha. Thanks in advance for all those who reply. Help is needed.
