Okay, so I posted on Craigslist that I am selling my Black 8GB iPhone3G for $300, and I received several offers. I talked to them on the phone. So, I know I can get the cash that I want for it. What do I need to do before I sell it? Just remove the SIM card? Is there a way to erase all the data from the phone in iTunes?

I am going to back up my iPhone3G in iTunes, then I'm going to go tomorrow (or whenever they have inventory) to the Apple Store and buy an iPhone3G-S, and then "Restore" the data onto the 3G-S. But then can I still erase the 3G after that, before I sell it?

(there are some serious questions here than need to be answered before people try this) Thank you in advance for your responses. :)

Before you sell it make sure you sync and backup your iPhone on iTunes.
Once a back up is set (where you could restore your iPhone 3GS from) you can now remove the sim

Then you can erase all the contents of your iPhone by going to Settings -> General -> Reset (takes an hour or more)

Then afterwards, clean the iPhone, make it look spankin new and prepare to hand it to your seller once he/she pays for it.

(did I miss any?)

THANK YOU!!!! That was the most helpful response I've seen on MacRumors yet. :)

Technically you don't have to remove the SIM. All the data will be transfered to the new SIM when you activate the 3GS. The SIM card in your old 3G will be useless until it is activated by the new user.

Well, everything has been covered already. All I have to add is to take a friend with you and meet the buyer in a public place. I don't trust ANYONE on Craigslist... nothing personal.

I completely know what you mean. I have sold things on Craigslist before.
I only meet people in public places. I haven't had to take anyone with me because I live in a safe area and I am very "street smart." If I see an "odd character," I will simply not get out of my car, turn the ignition and leave. But for other people, if you use Craigslist, be careful and keep your brain skeptical until you have the cash in your hands.
