what's a good external to get?

My friend is going to buy a new monitor and he was going to get an apple cinema display for his mac book but he's a student and I wanted to save him some money and recommend him a cheaper but similar non apple display. He wants to be able to use it as a TV as well and I was wondering if you guys can recommend one for me to recommend.

I also plan on getting one soon as well I think we're thinking like in the 22-23" range. thanks in advance.

If he just needs a good quality screen, try the Samsung T240, great display for half the price of the Apple displays. Probably not quite as good but much much better quality per $.
