I've owned a lot of computers and Apple products over the years but have never traded any of them in. This year I find I may need to give it a try but I'm wondering when in person trade ins are done, how thoroughly do they actually check devices? Specifically, when you brought your trade in into whatever company you brought it to, did they plug it in? Or did they just run it on battery to see if it actually functions properly?

What was your experience?

Thanks!

Last time for me was trading in my 2017 15" MBP, I did it at the Apple store at the same time I got my M1 16". They did a visual inspection, on battery and a few other checks but it was all very fast, they didn't even ask for the charger. I will probably only ever trade in store because of all the horror stories I have read about mailing unit in and then being offered well under the estimate.
