What's changed in the movies and photos folders?

I do a simple file backup of my home folder to a external hard drive.

Now movies and photos are being a pain. the library files fail half way through with finder saying some parts cannot be read or written to. Why has this changed?, and what's the work around when copying the home folders?

Forgot to add, it gives error code 36 when copying. I fixed this on a folder previously using dot_clean, not sure I want to do that to a system type folder that's semi hidden.
