I attached my june 2013 MBA via thunderbolt to HDMI to my TV, and when I open Netflix in Safari and use Netflix's full screen button, my laptop is open it looks like this:

But when I close my laptop (plugged into wall power), I get this:

What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this? I know I did this once and it worked. I just want my laptop closed and playing netflix.

Probably a silverlight bug that do not update the resolution properly. Unfortunately it is not supported by Microsoft anymore so you will have to live with it until netflix uses something else then silverlight (HTML 5)

Try exiting full screen mode on netflix an enter again with the MacBook already closed, should work fine...
