what's happening??

when I', away from my macbook pro ( which isn't very often!) I normally touch one of the keys and then type in my password and were back in action..now when i return to it no amount of key touching as any affect, I have to turn it off and then restart..what have I done thanks

Was it left on battery power? Maybe it went into deep sleep and the only way you can turn it on is if you applied power to it?
