Tech bag is usually a bagpack/Laptop Bag in which you usually put your everyday toys/gadgets when travelling or commuting. I've seen lots of it on Youtube and I'm curious what's inside Macrumors members tech bag. I'll start with mine:

Mine is pretty outdated tech and simple:

Tech Bag: A cheap Levi's Red Backpack
13 inch 256GB 2019 Macbook Pro
2nd Generation iPad Mini
iPhone XS Max 256GB
Apple Airpods
Sony and Sennheiser wired headset
Lightning Charger
Thunderbolt/USB-C Charger
Canon EOS M50
Canon EF-M 15-45 mm / 55-200 mm lens
Canon EFs 24 mm / 10-18 mm lens with adapter
Extra Canon LP-E17 Battery
Small flexible cheap tripod that I got from Amazon
Extra Sandisk Memory Card
Small notepad with ballpen

How about you guys? I don't have power-bank because nowadays there's so many coffee shops around to charge my phone/laptop. I'm wishing for a nice sleek minimalist weather proof black backpack for Christmas. I hope I got money to upgrade my ipad but I don't use it a lot so I'm hesitant to buy a new one. You can post photos if you want.

I keep mine simple.

iPhone 11 Pro
13” MacBook Pro 2019
30W Charger
USB-C to Lightning Adapter
Airpods

If I had to list all of my filming tools that’d make for a much longer list, but I keep everything else (including a 2019 iMac+eGPU+iPad Mini 5th Gen) at home.

That's a great minimalist set-up! What kind of bag are you using? Nowadays, I don't bring my iPad anymore.

Here’s a not-so-glamorous shot of my tech bag, which is a Timbuk2 Armory pack. It has problems standing upright, but is so comfortable on the back. Only criticism is that it doesn’t seem to hold quite as much as its specs suggest, and the side water bottle pouch is pretty tight, possibly due to the design.

Inside, I have a

1) Work-issued HP elite windows laptop
2) My 11” iPad Pro with Smart Keyboard.
3) Tech organiser with wireless mouse, a compact 60w charger (because the HP laptop charger is so bulky), and misc charging cables and adaptors and drives.
4) Umbrella
5) water bottle
6) front holds my pencil case and Apple Pencil, plus misc other stuff that I may need quick access to
7) side has my medication and plasters.

Teacher here.

Thanks for the effort! I love that you have an umbrella! Your backpack looks waterproof and something you carry for backpacking. If I were you i’ll just use my ipad and leave the HP one in the office.

I use a briefcase, not a "tech bag" and, depending on where I am, the briefcase used is different.

When I am at home, and attending meetings, I use one of the following two:

1. Adeney Swaine Brigg black leather Paternoster briefcase. Very stylish, elegant and classy. Perfect for anything requiring style and a degree of formality.

2. Church's (the company that makes such superb shoes, I have several pairs), a lovely black leather briefcase.

When abroad, if it is a country that is not too challenging (Ukraine, for example where I observed elections earlier this year), I sometimes take the Church's briefcase with me. While it is elegant and understated, and sufficiently stylish for formal occasions, the leather is soft and forgiving, it holds a lot, and it doesn't look so expensive that it will invite unwanted attention.

Otherwise, in challenging spots:

3. Saddleback, the Classic briefcase, medium size, in chestnut. This is an indestructible briefcase (it came with a 100 year guarantee) and looks wonderfully ruggedly handsome; the only drawback is that the leather is so robust, it is somewhat heavy.

The briefcase (whichever one I use), plays host to:

My 11" MBA, and and its charging cables and world wide adaptors.

My A&K SP1000 and its charger. (I used to have iPods, but Apple no longer makes the iPod Classic and- worse - iTunes has become a real pain to use).

My B&W P5 headphones.

A real note book (the kind you write in), usually a Leuchtturm1917.

Several packets of fountain pen (Mont Blanc) cartridges (usually black, or midnight navy, occasionally blue); the fountain pens (Mont Blanc Meisterstuck) are usually on my person.

Water bottle.

Small, but sturdy umbrella.

Set of plasters.

Small bottles of both Tea Tree oil and Olbas Oil.

Packet of tissues.

Small container/packet which contains both a cloth for cleaning my glasses, a small bottle of spray for my glasses, and a very small screwdriver - with different shaped heads - to tighten the screws on the frames of my glasses.

And my iPhone SE, unless it is in my pocket.

Wow your set-up is simple but ELEGANT at the same time. I wish I work in a corporate world sometimes so I can carry a posh leather black bag. I googled "Adeney Swaine Brigg black leather Paternoster briefcase" it looks classy!

Thanks.

Not corporate, but the interface of academic/public service.

But, I do like beautifully made, and elegantly crafted products, and I love leather.

Agreed, that the Adeney Swaine Brigg briefcase is exceptionally elegant; it was made - handmade - to order, - the company are a pleasure to deal with - and it was my present to myself last year when I finished up a after a year based in the Horn of Africa.

As it happens, I do have a rucksack, but it often travels as hand luggage (playing host to wash-bag, and changes of clothes), rather than as a "tech bag"; it, too, is leather, soft reindeer hide, and handmade in Scandinavia.

Actually, it came with an impressive guarantee, for, when I asked the woman I had purchased it from: "How long will this last?", - she had introduced me to her husband who had actually made it, - she replied coldly "longer than you will."

Thanks. I wanted a bag that could double for that purpose when I accompany my students for camping or overseas trips. I also wanted to set up what I dubbed my "my mobile office" where I basically have all the stuff I need to do any of my work on me at all time). And I still need the HP laptop (or a proper laptop for that matter) to do stuff like work on google docs, or access my work mail or network files via VPN. But at least it's thin and light enough.

Ideally, there would be another outside pouch so I can quickly access my umbrella in a pinch, but it still works well enough.

My bag has my iPad mini 5, iPad stand, Apple Pencil, charger, micro fiber cloths, wet wipes to clean hands (if need be) Rubix Cube, SIM ejector tool, small portable charging battery, (in case I don’t have access to a wall outlet) Apple keyboard, trackpad 2, and Magic Mouse. I also carry 2 extra charging cables and brick for my iPhone SE and Apple Watch. I also carry Koala Kleener for my eyeglasses. It also does a great job of cleaning the iPad and iPhone screen protectors. I also carry a new Spigen screen protector for both devices, in case something happens and I need to repair right away. I also carry a small, real writing pad with pens.

I feel so poor now just by reading the description of the bag haha! Well, the good thing about ultra expensive handmade leather good is that you can pass it to next generations. It's a justifiable purchase in my opinion.

Did I read it right? Rubix cube? Like the toy? Nice. I can see you like compact items because of iPhone SE and ipad mini 5. I'm really tempted to buy ipad mini 5 because my 5 year old ipad mini 2 (I'm amaze it's still working well after all these years) did not get the iPadOS update but maybe I'll just settle for kindle paperwhite.

Tech bag is usually a bagpack/Laptop Bag in which you usually put your everyday toys/gadgets when traveling or commuting. I've seen lots of it on Youtube and I'm curious what's inside Macrumors members tech bag. I'll start with mine:

Travel Bag - Tumi Alpha (Black Leather) with suspended laptop section and cable/accessory bag - almost 20 years old and still in decent shape

Always equipped and ready to go with accessories that do not leave the bag at home so there is no packing, checking or forgetting critical items when traveling on short notice. (I have a good memory but it is a short one :) ) used to always forget the magsafe

Last minute addition to the bag - only 3 items to add
Current rMBP 2015 i7 - 500g
Current iPP 12.9 256g
WD 1 TB media drive - iTunes library

Items that do not leave bag (when at home)
  • Mag-safe power adapter and extension cord
  • 10400 mAh power adapter for iPhone and iPad
  • Accessory bag with sd-card reader, various cables and adapters, interlink laser pointer and presentation remote, video adapters (HDMI - SVGA)
  • Sandisk wireless drive with SD card reader
  • Bose QC35 head phones
  • HDMI cable 10' with thunderbolt connection
  • USB hub
  • extra iPhone and iPad cables and chargers for hotel and rental car charging
  • Apple watch puck / charger
  • Air Pods, Screen cleaning cloths, several USB drives
  • Bose micro speaker for rMBP
  • several pens and a sharpie
  • USB charge electric Razor
  • Amp meter - Multi-Meter
  • Reading Glasses
  • ID wallet in front compartment (easy access) with Passport, and other travel documents and cards etc.
Tumi Bag has a document section with 3 dividers that fit legal size docs and file folders for technical manuals, sales info etc. I have a leather note pad / case (w real paper note pad) that fits in one of the dividers and also acts as a iPad case / sleeve with pens and b-cards and other paper docs - great when removing at airport and also for leaving the hotel without the MBP if not needed.

I love this particular Tumi case - it has a suspension section that holds the MBP in the middle of the bag and is hanging 2 inches from the bottom of the case so if dropped or banged from the sides the laptop is isolated and very well protected.

Tumi Alpha cost like 450£! Wow! Well, it’s worth it since you said it lasted 20 years and it got a classic look. I like that you have screen cleaning cloth. I might copy that one.

2. 1 All purpose tech maintenance kit (lots of screw driver bits, magnetic work pad, etc)
3. Lunch (today was spicey cajun chicken)
4. Laptop Charger
5. Portable Battery
6. iPhone 6
7. Samsung S9

Carry as little as possible.
iP 11 Pro Max
12.9 iPP

5w charger
2 charge cords
Dongle for charging AppleWatch

Generally use either an LL Bean or an ASPCA messenger bag.

If on vacation I’ll also bring 4 Sandmarc lenses for the phone.

Heck, you can carry any kind of bag, briefcase, etc., that you'd like.

I've been around some extraordinarily brilliant, educated individuals, people with substantial wealth, with world class business acumen, who still prefer to use a simple shoulder bag, a messenger style bag. One of the most well known / high dollar attorneys in the tech space in SF met us downtown, rode his bike, had a backpack :)
