First Scenario:
I have grandfathered unlimited data on my number still and I have another line on my family plan that is tiered.
I have an upgrade available.
When ordering a phone on VZW's website it allows you to transfer your upgrade to another line on my account.
I can order the iPhone5 on my tiered line at $199, the SIM will be provisioned for the new phone number of course when it arrives.
Instead, after the iPhone arrives, I bring it into a VZW store and say I need a SIM for this iPhone (using my grandfathered number).
Thus, getting a subsidized iPhone5 for $199 (16gb) on my grandfathered unlimited data plan.
What's stopping me from doing this?
Second scenario:
I open a new line with VZW buying a $199 iPhone5 16GB.
I cancel the account, paying the ETF of $350 in order to keep the iPhone5.
As you know, a non sub price for an iPhone5 16GB is 649.99 + tax.
That's about $695 total cost.
A subbed iPhone5 16GB is about $214 after tax.
$214 + $350 ETF = $574 total cost.
Total savings = $121
What's stopping me from doing this?
If the second scenario works, I urge anybody to do this (unless scenario 1 is not available to you) (can probably work for ATT & T-Mobile as well) as a price of $649.99 for a phone is beyond ridiculous.
