What's that noise?

Whenever I open my UMBP, about 5 seconds after the screen comes on, there's this weird sound....like a space whistle or something. I know it's not the sound for "no new mail", but aside from that, I have no clue what it is.

Any ideas?

well there are three possibilities, fans spinning, hard drive, or optical drive. does it happen when the computer starts up or only when it wakes from sleep?

Do you have Skype, iChat or some other chat program running?

i have also heard a strange noise a few times, like a buzzing (whether its the same thing that you have i dont know) but it was annoying and the only way i could get rid of the noise was to restart the computer. recently i have not heard it though

I had accidently turned iChat on and it was the 'signed in' chime sound.

Aside from any notification noises, my UMBP is completely silent. When I was transferring my iTunes music from my iMac to my UMBP, I had to put my ear against the bottom of the computer to even faintly hear the HD whirring and clicking away. No fan noises, nothing. Nice!!
