what's the average price to pay a company to replace the logic board on a 2014 Macbook Air 11?

This is what I"m seeing on the box: Part# MD712LL/A Model: A1465 Macbook Air 11.6 / 1.3GHz / 4GB / 256GB Flash storage

I'm not very good with opening up computers and replacing parts. This Macbook Air belonged to a family member. A few years ago, Apple said it was over $500 to replace the logic board out of warranty. It does power on, but only display a black/grey screen.. something about the GPU broken on the logi board? (local authorized Apple repair shop and a non-authoirzed Apple repair shop said about the same thing) So he left it unrepaired and in the desk drawer after all these years.

A used/refurbished identical Macbook Air is about $400, based on a quick eBay search... so I'm just wondering if it's worth it to replace the logic board and use it somehow.(for little kids) Or shoudl I just drop it off at the local computer recycling place?

Thanks! :)

Not sure of the answer. However at $500, if you could swing it, merely upgrade and get Apple Care, too.
Honestly, not sure if it is worth spending $400, $500, or possibly $600 to replace the board. Upgrading might be more practical.

Again, not sure of your finances. Alas, something to think about...

If you're in the US you could always reach out to Louis Rossmann (google him). Alternatively sell for spares and repairs and buy a second hand unit would be my approach.

Source a second hand board (ideally from newer model and with better specs) and replace it yourself. At least that's what I would do. Unless that is you can find a local shop which would do it for reasonable price including labor (some places can indeed do it for cheap as it's an easy job).

Are you able to use the MacBook with an external monitor? If you can, I doubt it would be a GPU problem.

The GPU is actually integrated into the same die as the CPU.

prob not worth it. like you said, you'd be able to get a working machine for cheaper.
