Hey all, I'm looking to convert my Inspiron N5010 Into a hackintosh. But I've been wondering what everyone here things would be the best version to put on, and also any tips y'all might have. :D

My Specs:
4GB DDR3 RAM
500 GB HDD
Intel HD Graphics
Dual layer CD DVD burner
Integrated webcam
And so on.

Thanks!

OSX is the best distro..... This isn't linux. There are no distributions.

There are copies floating around the internet that have been modified with certain kernels, and drivers, and other patches.. But these are not as legal as owning an actual license and working from there..

That being said, a plane jane vanilla install is the best... As long as your hardware can support it.
go to www.insanelymac.com you will get more support there with various hardware issues and questions. Mac rumors is more geared towards real macs.

Your computer has a significant amount of hardware that won't be supported in OS X. You will be greatly disappointed. Sell that computer and buy a Mac. Seriously. This is coming from someone (me) with two hackintoshes.

Search insanelymac.com to see if anyone else has success with that model, but you will have better luck with hardware that is similar to existing Mac hardware. The Dell is not close to any current or former Mac model.

10.6.4 is solid enough.

What motherboard and cpu are planning on using? That in of itself will dictate the ease of making a hackintosh, at the very least and quite possible the success/failure.

Visit insanelymac and read the forums, they'll have guides and information that you'll need.
