I'm making a "backup" of the first season of House and I came upon the below menu from Disk Utility.

What's the best format to use? I don't really care too much about how long it takes.

Should I use encryption? If so, which form?

Thanks.

You should only use encryption if you don't want anyone who doesn't have the password you set to access the image.

Aside from that, any of the formats listed should be fine. Using the option you've selected will give you a .img file.

Thanks.

I now want to separate the episodes rather than having them all together. Is there a way to so this in Disk Utility, or should I use HandBrake for that?

It gives me .cdr ones.

I can't do this on the Dell because the DVD is copy protected.

Is the Mac version the same, i.e. can't do anything with a copy-protected source?

DVD Fab it and then use HandBrake. You'll really want to use a quad or more for HandBrake.

The Mac version uses the libraries in VLC now instead of including them like they did in the past.

Any free solutions?

So that means it can do something with a copy-protected source, correct?

The installer was easy enough, but the main program is a mess. I don't really know what is going to happen. It might be bad enough that I'll just wait a long time and use my Mac mini.

Another update:

DVDWhatever got the job done fine and now HandBrake it going well.

I think I'll import the whole DVD with DVDFab until the trial runs out, then I'll have to find something else. Then I do the HandBrake thing and delete the DVDFab file.

There isn't a trial for just ripping DVDs. There's no expiration date on it.
