I'm looking for a USB-C SSD enclosure for 2.5" drives that is the best quality.
With SSDs, the M.2 versions are expensive, and run $500 for a 4TB model that won't have numerous reviews about failures. The M.2 drives also tend to overheat requiring extra attention to proper cooling. Meanwhile, older 2.5" form drives can be solid with no unusual failure rate for just $340 with 4TB models. Likely that's thanks to having thick heat-dissipating cases already and being bigger, thus needing lower quality control due to tolerances. The problem is 2.5" enclosures and their associated controllers seem to be unreliable and lower grade than typical M.2 controllers.
Normally, I'd hop onto OWC and get the latest and greatest, in this case the Mercury Elite Pro Mini. OWC goes the extra mile for Macs and if you get one of their SSDs they're even specially designed to compensate for the lack of TRIM support on any USB drive for OS-X, alleviating a potential 75% performance drop.
OWC is a great company, but the first review on that link concerns me:
Thanks, any help is appreciated.

I get 2.5" SATA controllers that can be sourced nowadays will be bottom of the barrel, it's now a cheap low-margin market segment. What is going on here though? Is this real on all Macs with this enclosure? Do all 2.5" enclosures do this on Macs? What enclosure is top shelf and will hot-mount?I have to restart my 2019 Mac Mini to get this drive to mount. All other drives (Two other models of OWC mount fine on the same port and with the same cables (yes, I tried all ports and have to restart to get it to work).
Thanks, any help is appreciated.
