Is there a way to do it without reinstalling apps. I have everything backed up on Time machine. As well as several external drives. I tried to stick it out with Lion but the slow performance, the spinning beachballs, not worth the aggravation.

Reboot to a 10.6 install disk.
Utilities Menu -> Restore from Time Machine
Select a date and time that corresponds to when you were still on Snow Leopard and restore (it will erase your internal disk).

After the restore, go back and copy over any data that had changed since that point so you have the most current data.

Thanks, Iz. That was very helpful.

I have been waiting for an update on Lion. Right around the corner, you say, Jamie? I give it another week. Then it's Time Machine time. ;)
