is $50.00 for an extra 180 GB of harddrive space worth it?

It depends if you think you'll use the space. If not, then it's definitely a waste to pay extra, if you will use it then it might be worth it - but in that case I'd still get the smaller drive and then spend a little more on a 1TB drive. In fact, I did just that! It cost £64, plus £3 for the Torx driver. Also get a USB caddy (£6 from Amazon several years ago) so you can use the spare drive as extra storage, and you'll need it if you want to clone your old drive rather than reinstalling everything from the DVDs.
