I've been watching this show for years and it seems to me that no matter what, the first two rounds don't mean squat and whoever wins round 3 moves on to the "Fast Money" round.

I've been checking out the rules on the show's Wikipedia page and though I see the scoring has changed many, many times in the past, I still can't quite work it out.

Time and again, it's as if the first two rounds are played purely to kill time, and the winner of the third round consistently reaches the 300 point plateau needed to advance.

(Yes, there's probably - or certainly - much more important things I could be thinking about, but this just bugs me.)

Richard Dawson is still the man. :)

All the other FF hosts combined don't have the brawniness and grit of just one of Mr. Dawson's chest hairs.

Survey says.....who cares? :D

Well, if you're referring to my original quandary, then I admitted myself that it was a rather insignificant thing to be bothered with.

If, however, you're referring to Mr. Richard "The Kissing Bandit" Dawson, then I believe a great many ladies in their 50s and 60s who grew up watching the English-born charmer get away with more groping and tongue kissing than any man in modern history (in front of the fathers, brothers, boyfriends and husbands - and on camera, no less!!) care a great deal.

:p

I've noticed the same thing, and it's always puzzled me too. They should do away with the triple points in the third round and keep it double points maybe. That way the first two rounds would be important in deciding the winner.

Great, so I'm not crazy!

Yes, the points are awarded as such that winning a single point round and a double point round combined is never enough to reach the "Fast Money" level, yet winning a single triple point round is.

So in theory, you could have two families there and one totally blows the other away, sweeps rounds 1 and 2, wins the face off for control of round 3, gets every answer except one, loses control to the other family who gets that single question right and steals the round and ends up advancing by answering one question right. Just one.

In Richard Dawson's time, there was never such nonsense.

I've seen families win the first two rounds and loose the third but still squeak by to get to the Fast Money round...on rare occasions. Anyway, I think the reason that the last round has so many points is that if one family wins the first two rounds, what's the point of playing a third round if there is no way the other family can win? Waste of time...and sort of "rubbing it in" to the other family. Instead, now that other family still has a chance to win and get to Fast Money.

I grew up watching Family Feud with that guy who committed suicide as host.

Speaking of Richard Dawson, the Match Game needs to come back.
