Why is it so loose? Won’t charge continuously it has so much slop in it. Common problem it seems according to Reddit users. Does Apple just want to sell mag safe chargers? It slips out on its own. $1000 phone, sheesh!
Is everyone just returning? If this is a known issue why would they keep sending them out? Reddit posts with the issue date from October, this is 3 months after the fact. Anyone here experiencing this. Just got this phone today.

Normally a new iPhone with a new genuine Apple lightning cable is a very tight and secure connection. Not wiggly at all.
What you describe sounds like a 6 year old phone after 10,000 insertions
Never seen one loose and even slipping out like this. On hold with Apple presently. I suppose sending it back is the only option and hope the replacement is better.
Awesome looking and feeling phone otherwise

nope.

got my 13 pro just before Xmas and its just like every other new iPhone I've ever purchased. snaps right into place, nice and secure.

might be a production line defect that affected certain shipments.

get a new one and see.

or idiots using their iOS devices at awkward angles while charging.

they break both the port and the cable.

to quote the legendary Joe Dirt......

Apple "wins twice brother!"

They’ll likely sell millions and it’s the only port of the device so I’m pretty sure you’ll find others with that issue. It’s annoying but hardware defects can happen.

PS: both my 6+ and 8+ had broken lightning ports after 2-3 years.

I've never had this issue. Is this your first iPhone? I've had multiple iPhones and none of the charging plugs felt loose or even got loose with age.

Yeah that sounds like the way to go. I can pick up my iPhone 13 promax by the cord without yanking it of course and it wont unplug. It’s crazy how that slipped through production. I bet whatever mechanism that grabs onto the plug is missing.

I think it was me that I asked if it was your first iPhone. That’s because if you’ve never had an iPhone maybe you would think that was normal of the plug and it’s not.

Silly question, but have you tried a different lightning cable, and checked whether there is a foreign object stuck in the port?

As others in this thread have stated, I too haven't had a lightning port (or cable for that matter) degrade to the point where you have a loose connection. I've just checked the connection quality on my well used SE1 and lightning cable; it still a snug fit!

Yeah I tried about 10 cables, everyone I have. Very loose, so loose it backs itself back out on its own and will not make contact to charge. At first I thought maybe Apple pulled a fast one and I missed it and they were using USB-C or something, it had that much slop in it. ? I don’t know how this plug-receptacle could possibly be the wrong size and get past the finish line. Oh well, I have a new phone coming tomorrow. This time I will plug it in very first thing before I do my transferring and updating. It’s all good, just a two day delay. I had enough battery and some time to play with it though and what an awesome device. Looking forward to getting it set up and being able to use it. Love the heft to it, feels very premium. Got the green leather case to go with it.

Anyone care to chime in with an opinion on setting up as new or using a backup. Coming from an SE20 I have a lot of time invested in that devices setup and really just want the 13P to be set up the same.

Do a iPhone to iPhone transfer, that is if you still have the SE 2020. Otherwise setup using your backup.

Probably ocd people who sometimes like to keep shaking their charger cable to check for looseness all the time.

I had the port break on two iPhones already using Apple cables and not having the condition you mention. It happens.

Well first time experience ever needing to return anything to Apple. Still don’t have the replacement. What a cluster, aggravation has set in.
Called Monday to report a defective 13 pro I had just received. They said send it back and we will overnite a replacement, should get it Wednesday, never got any tracking info for my replacement, however they did send me tracking info for the defective phone going back to them. Not much help. AND, I couldn’t even follow it as they then removed that tracking info from my order page. ? Wednesday came and went, no replacement. Called again and they said my replacement was on hold until my defective unit is received and evaluated. Ok, why not tell me that was the procedure in the first place? I dunno. Now they say everything checks out and replacement is on the way for a Friday (today) delivery. Still no tracking so I decide I better call. This is the 3rd call and they say no, delivery tomorrow(Saturday). At least I don’t have to wait around the house all day since I have to sign for it.
Had plans for the weekend but now my plan is to wait around the house all day and hope they finally got it right on the delivery day. My first experience with an Apple return and hope to heck it is the last.
Good thing I have backup.

I’m also a fan of android. Google is no better for sure. Sent in a trade in a few months ago and they LOST it! Mega giant corporations, gotta love ‘em, NOT!
Hoping to be enjoying my new iPhone 13P tomorrow. I pray it isn’t also defective. If it is I may just switch to 7/11 burner phones. ???

FedEx and UPS tracking recently has not been consistent. So don’t blame Apple.
FedEx or UPS will just leave it outside your door - no signature required and they won’t even knock. So you should be around and attentive (near the front door) to grab it after delivery before a porch pirate sneaks off with it.

Yeah you are right about porch pirates, one does need to be watchful. The original delivery did require a signature and that was with UPS. So I made an assumption that the replacement would probably be the same deal. I realize they’re tracking can be off but my gripe was Apple never even gave me a link to the tracking and I had no way of checking it. So hoping for tomorrow delivery. Unfortunately I will need to stick around all day on my Saturday off.

Saturday delivery with UPS costs extra. A lot more. Normal ground service does not include Saturday delivery. If a package is one facility away from you on a Friday but Saturday delivery wasn’t paid for (extra) by the shipper, UPS will hold it until Monday for a Monday delivery.

If you’ve got a tracking number that says Saturday delivery is imminent, then it’ll likely arrive on Saturday.

Yeah, I can only go by what Apple reps are telling me over the phone. They were wrong about Wednesday delivery and also wrong about Friday. This morning they told me it would be tomorrow but I’ll believe it when I see it. Hoping for Saturday. Supposed to be overnite service so that doesn’t sound like ground. There was no tracking number given to me so im going by what they are telling me. They have been wrong so far. No idea if fed ex or UPS. They do not say. Seems kinda lame to me for a trillion dollar company but whatever. A tracking number would have been nice.

UPDATE: OK, apparently after 4 CSR transfers and 1 hour on the phone with Apple no one knows where my replacement iPhone 13 pro is or if it was even sent out. Interestingly they do not seem to have tracking info on replacement phones. So I requested a full refund instead. I hope the refund process is better than the replacement process. Sheesh!!!

Bummer. Sorry to hear about this, such a frustration.
