I was wondering if anyone knew what the difference is between 1) Microsoft Office 2011 Academic for Mac and 2) Microsoft Office 2011 Student edition for Mac?

I know the Academic version has Outlook, but are there any differences in compatibility? Which one is better?

I believe that Academic is the equivalent of Microsoft Office for Mac 2011Professional but you get it at a discounted price, as you purchase it through your school/college/university. Whereas, the Home and Student edition is just a standard edition that you can buy from any store.

Home and Student includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and can be installed on up to three PCs.

Professional includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and can be installed on up to two PCs (the one I have could be installed on 2 PCs, anyway.

Academic is the same thing, plus Outlook for less money.

I've got Academic right now, get it and save the cash!

Office Mac Academic -Single license. (same as Home & Business) Students must purchase their copy through qualified educational channels. (Can be installed on one computer only. If you get a new computer or replace drive. it cannot be installed again.)

Office Mac Home and Student 2011- (Does not include Outlook) You can purchase a one install or 3 install version.

See this chart that compares all versions. http://www.office.mvps.org/version/index.html#versions
