About $100 if you're comparing Office University 2011 to Office Home & Business 2011.

Sounds like you're comparing Office University 2011 to Office Home & Student 2011.

Also are there any other good alternatives that would work good?
Define "good". There are certainly other options which are frequently discussed here. Whether they're good or not is entirely subjective.

Is there any difference between Microsoft Office University 2011 http://www.staples.com/Microsoft-Office-University-2011-for-Mac-Boxed-CD/product_429122?cid=PS:GooglePLAs:pcs_/_Drives_/_Accessories:Microsoft_Office_2010_Software:429122:W6L-00001 and the regular Office? The university one is $20 cheaper. Also are there any other good alternatives that would work good? I'm looking at all my options before I decide on one before I start college.

LibreOffice! It's completely free and is compatible with MAC/Windows/Linux. AND it includes a document app, spreadsheet app, presentation app, drawing app, a database app, and one for creating formulae.

Home and Student lacks Outlook which University appears to have. I second OpenOffice, Libreoffice or NeoOffice.
