between Pro-Tools, for example and BIAS Peak? or Soundtrack Pro, or Logic Pro?

i've heard that you can Edit sound in Peak and Soundtrack pro without needing to have the interface pllugged in? i still don't know the difference? Care to explain? :)

Thanks a lot.

Peak is a final mixdown editor.
Soundtrack Pro is pretty much the same but is meant more for working with
video.

ProTools and Logic are Multi-Trak mastering and editing programs.
