What’s the issue with messages on iCloud not showing but show up when doing a search?

I’m on iOS 26.1 but issue occurred a while ago. My messages go as far back as 2009. Yet when I scroll I’m the messages app I can’t see the threads. However if I do a search the messages show up. It’s been almost two months since I transferred my data from an iPhone 16 to 17 using phone to phone transfer and all my apps are stored via iCloud. Any ideas? Initially I thought it took time but it’s been almost two months since restore. Thanks.
 
Just an update. If I search for the messages that are missing between 2009 and 2014 they show up until messages sync again with iCloud then they disappear again!

I disabled messages from iCloud waiting a few hours then reenabled it so it did a full sync but still no joy. Any ideas ?
