IMHO creating a new System Preferences->Network Location will help in resetting all network settings and clears up old Automatic code that was left over from the 10.5.x system.

Anyone find some advantages using them?

Usually, I want to get an IP address and DNS automatically by DHCP. There is a specific place I need to have two IP addresses (one can be automatic, but I simultaneously need access to a different subnet) and one has to be manually assigned a specific address. It's to manage A/V equipment. Much easier to just change the location instead of of going into Network preferences and changing all my settings, only to undo later.

yeah it makes a lot of sense, and really seems to untie your hands in some situations. :) I am definitely gonna be using it.
