I'm on the 2013 13 inch base model macbook air and I just imported pics from the DSLR and cant seem to find an app to browse my pictures. I remember there was iPhoto earlier but I cant find that app on my mavericks updated mac. Has it been removed from the default apps of the new macs?

If you have a new machine you need to start the App Store app and accept your free copy of the iLife apps including iPhoto, then it will be downloaded and installed on your machine.
