Brand new iPhone. Fully up-to-date Mac. Been trying now for 45mins to transfer some photos using Air Drop.

Wifi and Bluetooth on on both devices.
Devices are next to each other.
"Discoverable by Everyone" on both devices.
Firewall set to accept all incoming connections.

But nothing.

Been through all the help pages on Apple's website, but it just doesn't work. What the hell am I doing wrong?

It seems that AirDrop is hit or miss. I've seen a lot of posts expressing frustration with it, yet it has consistently worked flawlessly for me.

How can computers running the same software and made by the same company work so differently for different people? Utterly ridiculous. I bought an iPhone because everyone rattles on about how well it works with the Mac. What tosh.

Same experience here.

Sucks for the people experiencing issues, though. Doesn't seem like there's much to troubleshoot on.

Are you running 10.10.4 or newer? There are some extremely common Bonjour-related bugs prior to that, and I believe AirDrop uses Bonjour.

Never mind

Had really a lot of trouble with Airdrop before, but since the recent El Capitan updates it works like a charm (MBA + iPhone 6).

Op: can you try again with 10.11.1 and 9.1?
Airdrop was buggy with 10.10.0 and 9.0, but it seems to work better now.
What phone and mac are you on?
