Apparently the Vision Pro has a guest mode for letting other people use your Vision Pro, but why? The thing only works properly if you have the right sized light shield doesn’t it? Is it designed for friends/family who happen to have the exact same head shape as you? Identical twins maybe? 😆

I’d love to show the dinosaur app thing to my little nephew, but his head is rather smaller than mine!

It prevents your guest from getting into your mail, messages, photos, etc.
Yeah, I get that bit. But your guest can’t really use it anyway can they? It wouldn’t fit their face unless they happened to have exactly the same sized head as you.

“Here friend, try out my Vision Pro in guest mode”

“… hmm… seems pretty bad. These things are supposed to be immersive aren’t they? There’s light coming in all around the side of it, I can’t see the screen properly, it’s all blurry…”

Hopefully your light seal is 21W as that seems to be fairly common size for most people.

For 2 hunnit bux, you can buy a light seal to your own spec. Matter of fact, I just checked the Apple Store app and when you go to preorder a light seal, it asks if it’s for your own AVP or for use with someone else’s. Cushions are also available for purchase separately.

I imagine it will work for most head sizes, it just won’t be a perfect fit. The light seals make it more immersive, which your guest will just have to live with when trying it out.

I think this highlights another issue with VR headsets, you can't just hand them to someone and anyone can then use it you have to be fitted into them.

This is my first dive into VR, spatial computing, whatever it’s called so I’m not familiar. Do the other headsets, like the Quest, have a fitting process before purchase? I always assumed they were very adjustable.

They don’t they are usually adjustable and come with multiple sizes of light seals the valve index comes with three and the older quests came with one but I think now the quest only has one and if your face is larger or smaller it’s a separate purchase

I think people are overthinking the “perfect” fit vs it just actually fitting. I imagine you will easily be able to let someone else try it with a comfortable fit. The light seal is just so it fits you perfect.

I use the Pico Neo 3 Pro AR headsets at work and they seem to fit everyone just fine as the devices are shared.

Picos have a manual pupillary distance adjustment that can be altered to fit different faces.

Truth be told, I don’t really want anyone else’s grubby paws and greeezy forehead on my stuff anyways lol. Maybe my wife can try it.

This is making me nervous. I came in with size S bands and 33W (after a few fitting sequences) without inserts.
Did you do the measurements in good/bright lighting? When I took measurements in so-so lighting, my measurements bounced between 21W and 33W. However, once I used bright lighting, the measurements became a consistent 21W.

Bright enough from what I can tell. LED overhead room lights on with sunlight coming in through the windows. I’ll try it again at work with fluorescent lighting.

I’m sure the fit will be fine enough for a quick demo for a friend. Sure it won’t be perfect but it’ll do to get a basic idea of the experience. I’m glad there’s at leas a Guest mode available!

On my Quest 3 it is fairly easy, you simply adjust the band and there is also a little wheel at the bottom to adjust the distance of your eyes to make the cushion (is that the word?) fit properly (you can also use an app to scan the distance of your eyes to adjust it properly). You can also wear your glasses with the Quest since you can adjust the distance to the lens

Just tried at work with fluorescent lighting and a white background. Yep, now I’m a consistent 33W. Hopefully they can change out my light seal when I pick it up, unlike the issues that causes with Apple Watch bands.

You could stuff toilet paper in the gaps haha.
I’m sure guest mode is just to give people a quick taste, so if it’s not perfect, no big deal, they get the idea.

This is just the trade off of having a custom fit anything, it means it’s not custom fit for others. I guess Apple could have tried to design an adjustable fit headset, but it probably would have been more complicated, added weight, and not fit as well.
If you’re going to share the headset with a specific person regularly, I’m sure you can buy a second set of fittings custom fit for them if needed.
