Are the police going to look for the serial number or something?

Also, if you want to make a claim on insurance (including policies like Worth Ave. or credit card coverage) you will need to submit a police report number for verification. They don't just take your word for it.

Any insurance claim is going to require a police report.

If the police have a record of the serial number of the stolen item and subsequently find it, that's called evidence. It works in your favor and against the thief.

A police report is also helpful to have if you plan to claim the loss on your tax return.

Can't imagine why anyone would not report a theft to law enforcement.

If a stolen iPad is brought to a pawn shop the serial number will get submitted to the police to check if it has been reported stolen.

Did you have an iPad stolen or did you steal one?

It was stolen, right in my gym class. I doubt it's gonna be bought to the pawn shop.

It won't be. I had an iPad and an iPhone both stolen from a McDonalds 3 years ago.

Called the police and gave them the serial numbers. The cop gave me his card and to this day they have never shown up.

same here and still waiting…not worth my time and bought another one. :apple:
