Do you guys think the new m2 16 with max gpu option will rival current mac pro 71 with mpx 5700x gpus? Or the vega dual mpx gpus?

I'm hoping to ditch my 7.1 with 5700x gpu. Keep everything portable with a dock and new 16 mbp. I need more gpu power in my 7.1. Most cost effective right now is add a 2nd 5700x mpx module. I realistically need the new 16 m2 model to rival 2x 5700x mpx modules. Possible? Or am I stuck using a desktop?

My Intel 16 w 5600m is great but it bogs when I have too many gpu accelerated plugins . My desktop works better.

Edit: when you started going on about the Mac Pro I started thinking about a Mac Pro replacement.

I don’t think the MBP M2 will have a comparable GPU to the Mac Pro 5700x. If anything because Apple is going to want the thermals of the next 16” to be much lower than the current one.

I highly doubt it tbh.

I am in the same boat btw and really want to be fully mobile, however the difference between my maxed out MBP 16 and my desktop is huge.

It will be interesting to see what they launch and if they can bridge the gap more, but I wont be holding my breath.

Apple just gave me m2 16mbp with 64 gpu cores? That will be 4 x current 5600m if I am correct.

Unlikely. There is a reason they still make desktop computers. I’m expecting an improvement over the current MBP, ideally 2x or so with a more stable set of drivers and cooler running. That’s probably the best they can do.
