Is it possible to backup and restore an Apple TV?

For example, I just purchased the new Apple TV 4K to replace my old one...

Plug it in and tv will walk you through the steps. It’s simple. The easiest way is to just use your iPhone, assuming you have one.

Hold phone close to the new Apple TV, follow the prompt to sign in and it will automatically download all your apps back. You'll need to sign into your apps manually.

Thanks! I thought I had to maybe create a backup or something similar to the iPhone or iPad.

It will install some Apps from your previous ATV4K, but I had to download quite a few from iCloud.

If you have more than one Apple TV associated with the same Apple ID, you can keep the same appearance and apps for each device. This makes it seamless to switch between an Apple TV in the bedroom and one in the living room, for example.

  1. Open Settings
    Settings
    on Apple TV.
  2. Go to Users and Accounts > iCloud and turn on One Home Screen.
