I know that on my new AppleTV that PiP is available but so far I’ve only see it on the TV Plus app.

Can’t help but wonder why. It’s not like I can browse the web on the AppleTV.

Not intended to sound snide. Am truly wondering why PiP is available on AppleTV and I guess also specifically why it’s only available on the TV Plus app and not all around like the YouTube app as well.

I really don’t understand. I don’t even think I can resize the PiP like on my iOS/MacOS/iPadOS devices.

Man I had the exact same pattern of thoughts. And I mean exact.

Was watching something the other day and accidentally hit the stupid PiP button, and down the video goes while it navigates to the Home Screen. I thought what’s the purpose for this? I don’t think I can resize it even. Viewing a weather app?

I know PiP was big in the 90s, to watch sports maybe while you stream another show? If I’m watching baseball I like watching the broadcast. Hearing the announcers, the ambience etc. Also we live in the world of “licensing”, can we even stream another show while something plays in Picture in Picture?

To summarize, I have no idea either lol

You can watch something while keeping your eyes on something else using PIP. Play a game while the news is in PIP.

If PIP wasn’t legal, you would not be able to use the feature, Apple would not implement it in the first place.

I believe the most useful purpose of PiP might be for sports. Or if something news worthy is going on perhaps keeping up with multiple news stations. Really, you use it for whatever you want to use it for.

As to why 3rd party apps maybe don't support the feature... it is up to the app developers to add that into their apps. Apple provides the API for the feature. It is up to the 3rd party app developers to support it.
