Are we at a point now where they work reliably? I need charge only. Not sync.

Please spare me the "just buy an official cable" comments.

I'll be equally spare with my comments. Buy one and see. They're cheap enough.

I got 2 cheap (Under 2£) ones, first one stopped working after 1 month, seconds after 2 weeks. I decided just to go and get an official one at £10. Still working fine after 2+ months now.

Had a few since last October...all still work great. Freak accidents happen with anything. OEM MacBook chargers used to burn somewhat frequently. Its all relative. Think of the millions of people who have 3rd party chargers. Thoughts go out to the woman's family though. So sad.

What's the verdict on third party lightning cables?

I have these. They work great for the past 3 months. No complains.
The company also gave me a replacement after the usb piece broke off by dropping a backpack on the charger that was plugged in to the wall.

I bought a cheapy from a local reseller. It charges fine from a wall, but won't charge or sync when connected to my computer
