I have been talking to a guy about buying his "new" iPhone 6 from him from CL. He's says the device is new and the IMEI shows it as new/unmotivated on the Apple IMEI site. When I check it out on Swappa, the IMEI comes back as Black listed on T-Mobile. Any ideas why this would be? I'm confused! It is a Verizon device - Not a T-Mobile phone.

Probably purchased it from T-Mobile using EIP and didn't pay the bill or using a fraudulent account. The Verizon and T-Mobile Iphones are identical so there's nothing you can tell by looking at it which carrier it was originally for. I wouldn't buy it.

I stated that it is a VERIZON device with a Verizon model number - NOT a T-mobile number.

Either way I wouldn't buy it. There are so many phones out there for sale...why take a chance if there's any question at all?

I'm guessing the OP may have their heart set on this phone because it's a "really good deal" which adds to the red flags (the old adage "if its too good to be true..." comes to mind).

Why not call T-Mobile directly? These imei sites are not always accurate and I would never rely on them.

I checked my VZW 5s on Swappa before buying and it was correctly identified as a Verizon model, not listed as a T-Mobile one as depicted in your screenshot.

It says it has been reported lost or stolen, so possibly a new phone stolen from a T-Mobile store that he figures he can sell as a Verizon model and disappear before whoever buys it tries to switch carriers to T-Mobile and finds out it doesn't work.
