on my MBA, right side, with a lightning symbol. I never use this machine, so I forgot, if I ever knew what that port is for?

As Meister mentioned, it is Thunderbolt. If you don't know what it is, you will probably never use it. The main use of TB for consumer purposes is as an adapter (TB-->Mini Displayport, TB-->HDMI).
