I got my macbook last wednesday and i taught everything was fine apart from the battery was going down very quick. I let it charge to 100 % percent today came in and used it for 30 mins - 45 minutes and its at 76 % now ?

Is this normal

If it's constant a drain that would give you ~4.5 hours of battery time.

Pretty normal I would say?

What were you doing and was wireless/bluetooth active and in use?

What kind of battery life are you expecting and what were you doing?

The 5hr rating is usually not attainable...

And Jisuo, I don't know what math you did, but if it lost 1/4 of it's charge in 45min, that would make 180min/charge, or 3 hours.

Just on the net. My wireless is always on but I turned off bluetooth.

@new -macbookplz
I didnt expect 5 hours but it went really quick there. A qauter of the battery in a round half an hour was kind of odd to me ? Its gone from 76 % to 58 % now. So thats nearly half the battery drained in an hour and a half ?

I used my special math only I know.

Ok i downloaded coconut battery and it says
Original battery capacity 5020
Current battery capacity 4655

So its at 92 %. I only got the computer a few days ago :(

It also says my mac is 2 months old

Is my battery's health good ?

No, it does not appear good. If it's brand new, the "current" capacity should be between 100-110% of the "original" in my experience. Did you try calibrating the battery yet? If not, follow these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490

If the reading does not become "normal," seeing how you JUST bought it, hit up the Apple store and see if they'll exchange the battery for you. Most likely they will, Apple is very good when it comes to battery issues, especially after the massive recalls they were subjected to a couples years ago.

Yeah i did calibrate it. The health hasnt gone up but ive used the laptop for nearly 2 hours now and its at 56 % battery charge and it says 2 : 25 remaining. So roughly thats 4 - 4 : 30 hours im getting out of my battery. I think that is quite normal ?

UPDATE : Its at 49 % and says 1 : 46 remaining.

BTW This is what it says in system profiler after a full charge.

Ok today I installed 7 updates and had to leave the house so i told my mother to restart the computer when they finished installing and put it to sleep. When i came back my macbook was plugged in charging. I checked the battery and its health is now 100 % and a better capacity than its original.

Im confused ?

Everything is all good then. Just check it after a couple cycles and make sure it stays up there.

Yeah will do. Going to keep a very close eye on this battery of mine
