all of a sudden my dual g4 1.25g has gone really really noisey...the big fan is spinning as fast as it can,,,,it sounds like a hoover :(

anyone know why this might have happened?

It's getting too hot probably. You should turn it off and unplug everything, open it up and blow all of the dust out with some canned air. Let is sit and cool down before you plug it back in and turn it on.

Just beware that kids should not be around canned air as it is canned gas and in no way is it air as we know it.

I have read somewhere on accelerateyourmac.com that leaving the side door down makes a mac run hotter. this would mean all models from the b&w g3 to the mdd g4. this is because when the side is open and laying flat it cannot be cooled by the system fan. you should always leave it closed.
