I noticed Apple puts a smell on the white macbook, as I had the 2007 model and currently own the 2010 model, and I also noticed the same smell on the MacMini box, altough the macmini itself has no odor.

I would like to know wich smell is it, why is there, when did this started happening, and how does Apple knows exactly what to put, I mean, how is this officaillay documented as in the Apples arquives?

It's generally designated as "That new Mac smell" that you catch a whiff of whenever you open a new Mac. Apple is famously obsessive about the unboxing process of their products, to ensure that the user has a good experience from the very beginning. That scent is part of it. Nobody really knows exactly what it is, but it smells like happiness. And that is exactly what Apple wants.
