On your whole screen and all applications or just in , what is that? DVD Player?

yh in preview, in cover flow, and in vlc?

Maybe when you installed VLC you installed an older version that has different codecs installed causing Leopard's graphics to go whacky.

yh i dunno what it is, but leopard is really starting to piss me of with its bugs, why have they got a tiger software update but nothing for leopard?

Well to be fair, if it is VLC screwing up then that is hardly Apple's fault is it?

nah but its messing up in photobooth, in cover flow and in preview too, this has never happened before
