Hi. I've had a 500GB WD My Passport for about 2 months now. It was working perfectly, until last week when it didn't want to connect properly (ie I would connect it 10 times, and about 6 of the times it would work). Now, it doesn't seem to connect at all. I can feel the HDD vibrating inside, so it is getting power, but it's not showing at all. What's very weird is that it doesn't even show on Disk Utility. I'm completely lost as to what I should do. I need to either get it to work again or reformat it somehow, because I'm going on a trip next week and need the space on it.

Sounds like a warranty issue to me. Send it back. Sound like the drive itself is OK but it's the SATA<=>USB bridge that i failing.
The good news is the 1TB drives are selling for only $100 now. Buy one of those while the 500GB drive s being replaced. You can't have tow many backup drives.

Damn, that's what I was afraid of. But this is a 2.5" drive, so there are no 1TB ones (hence why I said I need it for a trip next week). Luckily I do have a second one, but it's "only" 250GB so I'll see how that'll go.
Send it back for replacement, especially if you're traveling soon. I have 3 of those drives and I didn't experience any of your issues.
