I have a black MacBook - 2.4 Core 2 Duo with 2 Gigs of ram. In the past few months, the computer has become progressively slow. No additional applications have been installed. If I'm playing a video on youtube and I open an application (i.e. Word) the audio will cut off as will the video. Loading programs has become a very slow process as well.

Thank you in advance,

Have a look at Activity Monitor (Applications / Utilities /) and select All Processes and sort by CPU to see what the culprit may be.
Also check the "System Memory" tab to see what your "Page ins:", "Page outs:" and "Swap used:" are.

image below uses sorting by CPU as an example

Thank you, I tried the activity monitor but I get a message saying "Activity Monitor can not start because of incorrect file permissions." Try repairing it with disk utility.

Any thoughts?
