Im mostly talking about the iPad's backplate. Which do you like best? Which is most beautiful? which is most practical?

Im personally fond of the iPad 1 back. While its not really practical, its design to me is the best looking in my opinion. Seems to have the most Apple-esk feel. The iPad mini would be a close second though. Obviously Im not a fan of the tapered edges :p

What about you?

Why not change the title of your post, since it has nothing to do with the bezels, but, instead, the rear of the devices . . .

I honestly like the look of the iPad 1, not for the bezel size, but for the fact that they do not taper it so much and just let the corners be thick. I wish the current iPads were like that.

Probably would help if the iPad 2 in your post didn't look like a fake knock-off and/or someone tried to polish it for half an hour. It reality it looks nowhere near that bad.

Here's a more realistic photo:

Thanks! I tried to find one but had no luck. Modified the OP

1st Place: iPad mini
2nd: iPad
3rd: iPad 2/3/4

I've only owned an iPad 2. I find it uncomfortable to hold because of its 'sharp' edges. It leaves sore imprints on the insides of my fingers after long uses. I would imagine I wouldn't have this problem with the original iPad, and not with the iPad mini either, partly because of the edge design but also because it's so light.

As far as appearances go, the iPad mini is still the title holder :). I love this design, which is used also for the iPod touch 5. I really want Apple to use the iPod touch 5 design for the next iPhone!

The edges of the iPad mini -- its chamfered edges -- are much more sharp than the iPad 2/3/4... In fact, I just bought an iPad 4 after having an iPad mini, and the 4's edges are very smooth, so I'm not quite sure what you mean.

Its probably because of the weight of the iPad 2 compared to the mini. After long uses of both, the iPad 2 would be putting more pressure on the fingers than the mini would.

Partly the weight, but it's the shape of the sides of the iPad. I said sharp, but maybe that was the wrong word. The iPad mini has the chamfered edge, which is sharp yes, but I'm assuming most of the weight of the iPad would be spread through the flat sides of the device, whereas with the iPad 2, the weight is spread through that thin edge, so there's more pressure on your hands along the edge when it's resting in them.

After using both, I have no such issue -- and I'm even using iPad 4, which is heavier than the 2.

The comment about the "sharp" edge is a valid one. I've noticed this on other Apple products as well. Back when I used to have a MacBook, it was annoying to need to rest your palms on the abrupt edge on the front. Same thing, but to a lesser extent, on my iPad2. Certainly not a deal-breaker, but unexpected since Apple does such a great job with ergonomics and physical design in general.

I enjoy the design of the iPad mini, with the flat back and chamfer, it matches the iPhone 5 very well. But alas, the iPad 4th gen is good enough for me, the way I use it, it'll last me along time :).

Design for:
Looks and overall feeling of quality- iPad 2/3/4
Utility (i.e., lightness, balance of device)- iPad mini
