I'm curious what folks are using as ringers and alerts. Here's what I'm using. I don't change much.
Ringtone (for contacts): Scotland the Brave. Unique, kinda loud, definitely gets my attention.
Ringtone (for unknowns): Silence. Sure, I could have recorded 30 seconds of silence, converted it to m4r format, and imported it into my ringtones folder. But I paid $1.29 to buy it and have it immediately available. Go ahead. Chide me - I deserve it.
Alert Tone for Email: "There is a message for you." HAL's voice From 2001 - A Space Oddyssy.
Alert for Voicemail: Tri-Tone, an Apple default. Because I really don't care about voicemails. I'll get to it when I get to it.
Alert for Text: StarTrek TNG doorbell. Unobtrusive, more of a gentle prod than a klaxon.
Alert for Text from Co-Workers: Nextel Chirp. Remember that one? It is obnoxious enough to wake me up if I'm asleep. I get emergency messages at all hours if somebody calls out and they need me to fill in. The downside to being a jack-of-all-trades, but it adds job security. My basic shift is 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, but the FedEx morning shift starts at 3:00 AM. The switcher (guy who moves the trailers to/from loading dock doors) starts at 2:00 AM. Since I'm switcher-qualified I get the call when the primary switcher bangs out. And I'm only 15 minutes from work. I sometimes get called in around noon if there is a computer problem as I'm the default alpha geek. Power outages play hob with the network, so when we have an outage and the network doesn't come back on its own, I get a text.
