Somebody from the past has my number but I've long thrown his/hers away.
Will he/she be able to see my status (profile picture, availability, status message), although I will never see this contact in my list?

As long as they have your number in their contacts, then yes they will have access to all those things.

IMHO one should be able to opt-in for a 'symmetric' usage preventing the above, but I guess it's simplicity über alles...

one of my friends always pops up as "GHOST" what does it mean? That this person doesnt have me in his contacts?
