They disabled iPod support once before and re-enabled it in a future update. They'd be stupid to ignore the iPod and iPad now that iMessage is coming in iOS 5.

I've installed Kik messenger on my kids iPods and also on mine and the wife's iPhone so we can chat free without Whatsapp.
