I have just set up a new-to-me iPhone XR. Everything is good, and everything about WhatsApp is good except that after restoring all previous messages and media from iCloud, all previously received videos won't play, and also cannot be saved. Videos sent now, ie since setup, are received and play OK. In a Chat > "All media" previous videos show as generic:

Any ideas? I googled extensively without finding solution.

Thanks for any help.

I have just realised what has happened. I am 99% sure that WhatsApp backup setting to iCloud on my old phone had the "include videos" slider set to off. So these videos were not backed up to iCloud hence not restored to new phone.
Obvious once the penny dropped, but decided I would post answer rather than deleting original post.

You can also transfer chats from the old phone to the new phone directly (with all content). It’s in WhatsApp settings/Chats, there is an option of transferring chats to iPhone.
