WhatsApp is rolling out a new and improved way to manage storage in the app, helping users identify, select and bulk delete GIFs, photos, and videos that may be filling up their phone.

The new tool groups together large files and media that has been forwarded many times, sorting files by size in descending order, and providing a way to preview files before deleting them. Users can also see a preview of media before selecting one or multiple files to delete.

The new storage management interface is rolling out globally this week. Users will be able to navigate to the new tool by going to Settings -> Data and Storage Usage -> Manage Storage.

In a related development that could also bear on storage, WhatsApp is reportedly bringing a disappearing messages feature to the popular chat platform soon. According to WABetaInfo, the feature will allow users to set all new messages in a chat to expire after seven days.

All we want next is WhatsApp to be a unified cross platform messenger on any device......not something that's stuck on a Phone.
It is a unified cross platform messenger. It is available on both Android phones and iPhones.

Edit: Sorry I thought you said iPhone.

iMessage needs something like this. The attachments are a MESS and a reason I stopped using iCloud Messages. Why is there no DELETE ALL button?? It’s a pain in the ass to remove all attached images from a conversation and then it shows you different storage / images in the message app itself compared to the settings app and also I don’t like that you can’t automatically save all received images to the camera roll. I always end up wondering like hmmmm did I already save them and can I delete them from messages?

There's no delete all, but it's still possible to bulk delete in there.

yes but its a pain, you need to slide down the whole list of images to mass select to be able to delete them also often I have the issue that if I go back into the conversion and right back into the attachments, it shows me images again that I just deleted. its weird.

Same if I delete images from within the settings app > general > storage > messages. It gives me a list of images that do not reflect the images I actually have in the messaging app itself or I delete the list of images and if I swipe out and back into the menu suddenly other images appear. And again no delete all button like whyyyyyyy. I manually have to tap on each image in the list to select them all

Don’t really know much about WhatsApp. Isn’t it just another Facebook messenger-like app? What makes people here who actively hate (justifiably) Facebook, want to use this app?
I’m American btw if that even helps. Everybody in my social circle uses iMessage, FB messenger, and Snapchat

Comparing WhatsApp to iMessage is like comparing iMessage to a telegraph.

Facebook is its Achilles heel though.

Sadly, no.
If it were available on iPads, I could finally get rid of my smartphone and go back to a dumb phone.
There are some ‘dumb’ phones that run WhatsApp actually, I remember it being supported by one of the basic Nokia phones released a little while back.

This should be considered properly for all of these messaging apps. Almost everybody I know is wasting plenty of storage on a tonne of useless images/videos/memes that they haven’t bothered to manage. It needs to be made easier.

I think they also want that, it is up to manufacturers too, sadly.

WhatsApp is the best, it is not just their large user base, it is how fluid and simple the app is. Due to work, education and family I have close people spread throughout the globe, WhatsApp is the only messaging app that allows me to connect with all of them.

Really waiting for an iPad app. Just doesn't work well in the browser. Not sure why it's so hard, they have a MacOS and Windows app already.

Telegram works better IMHO, it's just an habit thing
