Whatsupp Backup in iOS 8 after fix

Hello guys,

The problem I have is that Whatsapp does not backup my chat data. I know this was a common iOS8 bug, but even after the Whatsapp 2.11.12 update, which should have fixed this issue, I still cant backup with Whatsapp.
Anyways, in the iCloud Settings, I can select Whatsapp for iCloud Backups. Does this mean that my Whatsapp data is backed up by iCloud and not by Whatsapp itself? I'm confused right here.
