As much as I love my iPhone SE, it's increasingly looking like Apple is done with phones in that size and I'll more or less be forced into a larger phone. I bought the phone in March 2017 so it's a little over two years old and the battery is really starting to show it's age.

I know I can get a replacement battery from iFixIt for $25 and I've replaced batteries and displays on iPhones in the past, but it's never not nervewracking, so I'm probably leaning towards just paying Apple the $50 to do it instead.

Alternatively I'm thinking of springing for a refurbished iPhone 8 instead, but with the new iPhones so close, I figure I'm better off just waiting it out, but here's my question:

When new iPhones release in September, will the previous generation phones that Apple offers refurbished drop in price, or does this usually happen later in the year/early in the next year when the iPhone XR and XS are likely to be added to the site?

There's really no way to tell what Apple will do. Sometimes they pull them from the store (both new and refurbished) entirely, and sometimes there are very minor price drops. Your best bet would probably be to wait for a new iphone release, and purchase the phone of your choosing directly through your carrier, who will probably have a better final number on a brand new phone in comparison to purchasing it new or refurbished directly through Apple.

From what I understand, the iphone x was pulled from the new selection of phones when the xs was released (unlike the iphone 8) and was being sold for around 850-900 in change from their refurbished / clearance section. If they don't release a comparable option to replace the 8 (home button, lower specs etc) theres a very good chance that there wont be much of a price drop on that particular model, and if there is a price drop, I would estimate it would be about a $50 reduction. Again, all of this is just an opinion based on what Apple has done in the past.
