I wanted to know when buying an iPhone from an Apple store, who dictates if a customer can purchase a subsidized phone on a line then switch it to another line or drop a data plan on a line then put a dumb phone on it , the carrier or Apple? I'm assuming the carrier but I wanted to be sure. Thanks everyone.

All decisions on subsidies are up to your carrier. Apple will sell you a phone if they will approve it. How you manage things with AT&T or whoever after is not their concern.

So your saying any changes with lines and thereby any penalties for such are determined by ones carrier ? So the loophole to retain unlimited data via Verizon is possible when buying from an Apple store ? Thanks
